The mist was swirling round as the light came up in the east.

It was also very cold - so Terry prayed to the Sun God - asking him to come out.

The fish were rising and we all
forgot the cold and started fishing. Marcus was in to one almost
straight away.
Z | |

It fought well, as all the fish do here, but it was soon brought safely to the net

I was then able to set up and cast out and my dry fly was
immediately taken by a nice 2Lb Rainbow in the prime of condition. My
word it was cold on your fingers though - mucking about in the freezing
cold water, but you only notice this when all the excitement is over.

Graham was then into a nice rainbow trout and it still was only 8:50am.
Z
| |
Marcus was into his second and it still wasn't 9:00am!
| |

Z
Terry was not in the mood to be left out ..........
Z | |

Z
......and landed a nice trout of just over 2 Lbs.

Z
Marcus was in great form today and his final fish, to count in the competition, was taken at 10zpastz10, just before the mist lifted.

Sunshine came at last and it was then quite hot in the sun.

Mike Williams,
the fishery owner, arrived, about this time, and made us all a very
welcome cup of tea with a mince pie as well, and a "wee dram" for those
of us that weren't driving. This was much appreciated and we resumed
fishing with new enthusiasm.
That is..... Until I discovered I had not got my wedding ring on my finger.....
Marcus was talking to me at the time and asked "What was it like?"
"Gold" I said "what do you think it was like"
"Oh" said Marcus - laid back as ever - "Graham's just found one only it hasn't got a 'Hall Mark' and we wondered if it was gold"
"That's 'cos I was too tight to pay the £30 when the wife had it
made for me a couple of years ago when I lost the original one in the
lake whilst putting back a Carp. She still hasn't forgiven me for
unromantically suggesting I'd rather have a small milling machine for
the workshop rather than a replacement!!!!!"
The thought of telling her I'd lost this one whilst fishing again sent shivers down my spine.
Marcus said they were a bit sad as it didn't fit either of them, but I did my Cinderella act and it fitted - so all was well.
I now owe both Graham and Marcus a pint and, hopefully, the wife believes me.

Bob was not sure he was coming as he had a bad cold and his wife said he must be mad going fishing on a day like today.
The first fish convinced him that he was right to come.z
z |
Terry
kept losing his flies up this particular tree and in the end he found
himself a rake, that had been left about, and proceeded to try to fell
the offending beast. He only managed to break off a branch but was
happy as he got back a couple of lost flies. |

Weigh in was a very serious affair as so much rested on just a few ounces. (not B****y Grams in our section!!!) |
|

Graham beat Marcus by just one ounce (Not right in Marcus's opinion after he had taught Graham all he knew) |
|
Bob's 3zLbs 10 oz fish ensured a comfortable total winning weight of some 8zLbs. well ahead of the runner up with 6zLbsz9z1/2zozs. |
|
"I cannot believe it only weighs 2zLbsz2ozs"
But at least my wedding ring was safely in my wallet at this time. |
|
Terry's 2zLbsz2zoz. fish pleasingly wasn't the smallest one caught today. |
|
Bob (predictably) took the bottle of 'Bells' but we all hoped it would help him (at least forget) his cold.
He also clutches a "3 fish ticket" kindly donated by Mike Williams (The fishery owner). |
|
"It was tough .... But I did it"
Graham was heard to exclaim under his breath. |
|
Marcus took the Port as he didn't drink Brandy.
|
|
At my age Brandy is a "must" .... purely for medicinal reasons you understand. |
|
Our beloved Secretary, Terry's, comment of "Cheers" wound it up for another memorable year. |
