Report
Kennick
reservoir nestles on the eastern edge of Dartmoor in a truly wonderful
setting. On a good day, it must be stunning to come upon such a lovely
stretch of water. Its well kept banks are protected by marvelously huge
bushes of flowering rhododendrons, growing right down to the waters
edge. Well,
they promised us dire weather and we got it !! Although the gale force
winds didn't materialise at all and most of the day was dead calm
except for the drizzle beating on the water. The first panorama above
shows the weather clearing up at around 1pm. Before that, at
times, visibility was down to about 10 yards, as the low flying
cloud got nearer and nearer to the ground. People were talking about
fantastic catches the week before, but most of us didn't feel a tug all
day. The only good thing about the weather was that I couldn't even
think about getting my camera out of its plastic bag all morning, so I
just had to concentrate on the fishing and around 1 o'clock I caught
the only fish of the day. Later I experienced that little known
feeling, on my part, of winning! The rainbow was a mere 1 Lb. 10 ozs.
in weight but it fought and jumped like a mad thing before it finally
came to the net. Well that's about all for now,
'Til we meet again,
John
