Report
We
were due to visit Riverton Fishery this time but adverse reports on the
way it was fishing at the moment made us try somewhere else. We decided
to give "Bell Brook Trout Fishery" a try.
We took two cars and I went along with Bob and Terry both who knew
where (roughly) the fishery was ~ only it was very misty!!!
We
realised we'd missed our turning, well before we got to Bristol, and we
turned around and had another go. Phoning Marcus, on his mobile, was to
no avail ("I'm on Orange - and its not very good in Devon" he told us
later).
Bob
said he'd been lost before and it added to the enjoyment. Terry was mystified how we'd missed the
turning. I , as a
"Blow-In", kept very quiet.
We were going very slowly down the A361, keeping our eyes
peeled, when Terry's mobile rang. It was the very nice lady
from the fishery saying that our friends were worried as we hadn't
arrived, and were we alright?
"Yes" said Terry "Just lost!"
A few directions over the telephone, another 10 miles, and we
arrived around 10am.
There was much mirth at our predicament but Terry said he didn't need all day to beat them all, even so.
Bell Brook is a lovely little fishery, northwest of Tiverton, with a
multitude of small lakes made by damming a stream as it winds its way
down a very pretty valley. We
fished the "normal" lakes, with fish between 2 and 5 lbs, but there
were also specimen lakes as well, at a higher cost. The owners
were friendly and made us feel very welcome.
The weather was overcast at first but the sun broke through later in the afternoon.
The fish were in fantastic condition and were the best fighters I think we have seen for a long time.
Z

Z Just as we arrived John Beer caught a nice Rainbow Trout followed, just moments after, by Marcus also catching a nice one. Once again, all I had time for was getting out my camera and taking pictures. z
 z

Terry, instead of fishing, opened his sandwich box and had his breakfast, just to show them he wasn't at all worried. Z
Z z
 Z Graham then caught a fish. Z
 z
Z Marcus was then into another and Terry quickly swallowed his sandwich and went down to the lower lake and started fishing seriously. Z
 Z
Z On, maybe, his third cast Terry was striking into a nice Rainbow------- Z
 Z
Z ------- which soon came to the net! Z
 Z

By 11:30am John Beer had caught his limit of 3 and Terry gave John's swim a go. Very soon he was gently lifting into another nice fish ------- Z
 Z
Z When he saw it safely in the net that familiar "Terry Smile" spread over his face. Z
 Z

By noon Bob was into his second fish which fought like a mad thing. Before he had it sliding towards the net ----- Z
 Z
Z ------- only to be off again at the first sight of Bob! He did land it in the end, but he spent an interminable time, it seemed, with his net in his hand. Z
 Z
By 1 o'clock everybody had "bagged-up" bar me! I really fished hard for the last couple of hours but it was not to be. I had fish on, but they bit through the line, dropped off the hook at the net and just nothing went right. At five to three I called it a day, and we went to the weigh-in.
Z
 Z
Z The only one who hadn't weighed in, by this time, was Bob. He came third! Z
 Z
The end of another lovely day's fishing where we all caught fish ------- Well most of us anyway. Oh ~ and by-the-way ~ Terry fulfilled his prophesy to Marcus, which he made when he arrived, and came First!!! But ~ Hey ~ The sun was shining and I enjoyed myself immensely. Z
