Report
What a difference with the
weather this week. It was very warm and overcast all day but it didn't
rain - well not really!
When
Terry and I arrived there were none of the regulars cars there and we
thought we would be the only ones fishing with Bob maybe turning up a
little later as he hadn't been very well all week. Then Martin Turner
arrived and said that he'd decided to give fly fishing a go and could
he join in the match. Terry said that he would be pleased to
welcome him, particularly today with such a poor turnout.
Well we
walked up to the lake and - would you believe it - 3 other
anglers were fishing, down the far end, bagging the best swims. It was
nobody we recognised - one looked like John Wayne with an enormous hat.
The three of us started fishing and after a few minutes, John Wayne
came strolling around the lake and started talking to Terry and Martin
and curiosity got the better of me.
I couldn't believe
my eyes when I got up to them - It was Marcus brandishing his wife's
Christmas Present - a magnificent example of a fishing hat.
Graham
"Fully waterproof. - You know!" said Marcus
I just had to try it on.
Now I'm not saying Marcus is Big Headed - but it
fitted me!
It
is truly marvelous - A well made, superior felt variety, tastefully
trimmed with a subtle leather thong and of nice neutral brown hue which
blends into the background (Well more than his Cap did at least). It
will definitely stop water from running down his neck and should keep
his boots dry as well.
Not only had they fooled us by Marcus
losing his identity, but they'd all come in John Beer's Land Rover
which we didn't recognise. So when Bob arrived about 9 o'clock there
were 7 of us, instead of the 2 we had started with, and all hopes of me
getting decent points this month diminished in a puff of Terry's smoke.
